DONORS NEEDS TO:
• Bring a current photo ID.
• Be HYDRATED! Donors should drink plenty of WATER 3-5 DAYS BEFORE DONATING! It is important to decrease the intake of caffeinated and sugary beverages, as they may cause dehydration.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS FOR BLOOD DONORS:
• Be at least 15 years old
• Weigh at least 110 lbs.
• Be in good health (free of infections or illness on the day of donation).
• Have no history of Hepatitis (age 11 and older).
• Be free of high-risk behavior/infectious disease, including high-risk sexual activity and/or IV drug use.
• Not have had a a tattoo within the last year.
• No aspirin for 24 hours.
• Prescription meds are OK.
• Body piercing is OK if performed in a jewelry store or doctor’s office with sterile technique or a by using a new sterile earrings (or equipment). Otherwise, wait one year.
• Provide a list of specific destinations and time periods if he/she has travelled outside of the country in the last year.
THE DONATION PROCESS
• Takes about 45 mins – 1 hr.
STEP ONE: Sign in at Registration.
STEP TWO: Complete a health history questionnaire and min-physical, which includes assessing vital signs, and iron levels.
STEP THREE: Donate one pint of blood. Blood is drawn using sterile, disposable materials.
STEP FOUR: After donating, relax and enjoy refreshments in the canteen area knowing that you just helped save patients’ lives!
